Alert! St Cyprians student Olivia Walton has won the 2007 English Olympiad, a three-hour essay competition sponsored by De Beers that attracts 5 000 entrants and is managed by the Arts Education Project.
Walton emerged at the top of the list of 100 finalists at the Schools Arts Festival in Grahamstown, which runs alongside the National Arts Festival. Her prize is a “literary tour to the United Kingdom” with Achita Singh and Kirsten Drury, who took second and third place. Sounds rather splendid.
What’s Olivia’s connection with BOOK SA? Why, she’s none other than author Margie Orford‘s eldest daughter. Her mother is thrilled with Olivia’s win, as might be imagined.
Following in Margie’s footsteps, no doubt. Congratulations, Olivia!
