The Book Lounge turned one on Monday night, and what a terrific occasion it was.
Literati, glitterati and papparazi gathered to celebrate as friends, authors, readers and customers paraded the best books of the year at another seriously sexy event on the corner of Buitenkant and Roeland in Cape Town.
Writers and publishers, poets and novelists turned out in their finest to honour the contribution of Mervyn Sloman and his stirling team to the literary life of the city. Guests cheered for the award-winning independent book shop that has established itself as one of the city’s main cultural hot spots. Some of the savvier Joburg folk even had the good sense to dash to the bash. (See pic at left.)
Thirty models took to the ramp wearing their BL tees and the latest high fashion accessory: a book, each one a “BL pick of the year”. Staff members took turns to announce and introduce the books and the bodies who “wore” them.
