Happy Ending for Holden, Gordin, Ball

Zuma, A biographyJeremy Gordin, Author The Arms Deal in Your PocketAuthor Paul HoldenJonathan BallAlert! All’s well that ends well.

Paul Holden, Jeremy Gordin and Jonathan Ball – both the publisher and the man – have resolved the “source material” issue that threatened to break out into an Holden-Gordin author twis earlier this week.

As Tymon Smith of The Times reports, Holden will receive a post-publication usage fee for parts of his book, The Arms Deal in Your Pocket, that appeared in Gordin’s Zuma: A biography “without due acknowledgment”. Both books are published by Ball. Holden will also receive more extensive acknowledgment in future editions of the bio:

“AN ELOQUENT solution to a delicate problem.”

That is what Jonathan Ball , managing director of Jonathan Ball Publishers, calls the compromise reached following the discovery that certain passages from author Paul Holden’s The Arms Deal in Your Pocket were used without sufficient acknowledgement in Zuma: A Biography by journalist Jeremy Gordin.

Holden and Gordin are both part of the Jonathan Ball stable.

It would appear that money changed hands. A very effective means of pouring oil on troubled waters.
