The 3rd Jozi Spoken Word Fest (July 28 – August 9) will again let loose the creativity of the spoken word arts in Johannesburg. There will be an eclectic mixture of video conference, symposium, spoken word performance, book fair, a publishers’ network meeting and book launches.

The poets include veterans like Keorapetsi Kgositsile, Lesego Rampolokeng, Myesha Jenkins, Robert Berold, Masoja Msiza and Peter Horn, and the young lions include Bianca Williams, Comrade Fatso, Khanye Magubane, Jessica Mbangeni, Niq Mhlongo and Zukiswa Wanner.

The voices and overlapping languages mirror the energy of our city and the potential of Johannesburg to push the limits of the possible.

Highlights of his year’s festival include:

* Live video conference workshops with key spoken word poets in America (Hedwig Gorski, US Consultate, Sandton August 28, 14h00- 16h00 Marc Smith, US Consulate, Sandton August 4, 14h00 -16h00)

* Symposium on African storytelling (July 30, Wits Writing Centre, 12h00 -14h00)

* Words in Action, a performance of activist poetry with Khanya College at Museum Africa, 09h00 -17h00

* Independent publisher’s network conference, Museum Africa, August 6- 7, 12h00 -14h00

* Bernice Davids book launch of behind the words August 6, Wits Ampitheatre 17h00-17h30

* Mentor protégé programme at Wits Amphitheatre August 6, 18h00 -20h00

* Paul Miles Launch of Skoot August 7, Wits Ampitheatre, 17h00-17h30

* Veterans programme August 7, Wits Amphitheatre, 18h00 – 20h00

* Women’s’ day event August 8, Wits Ampitheatre, 18h00 – 21h00
