Alert! The second annual Boek Bedonnerd book fair is around the corner, set to run from Thursday 22 to Saturday 24 October in the Northern Cape’s Karoo hamlet of Richmond – and set to feature quite a diverse lineup.
The name that leaps out from the programme with the greatest alacrity is – Lawrence Green! When I called to confirm whether, in fact, the festival has succeeded in booking the prolific but deceased author, the charming woman on the other end said, “No! We’re a booktown, not a spooktown!” Turns out that someone will be presenting on Green and his works – no doubt with emphasis on the books that involve the Karoo.
Amongst the warm-bodied, those scheduled to attend include David Bullard, Rian Malan, Tymon Smith, Etienne van Heerden, Martin Welz and Antoinette Pienaar, for starters.
