Novuyo Tshuma’s The Pen and I is a blog dedicated to fiction, and particularly African fiction. Tshuma, herself a prolific writer, has short story “Ikej” in the forthcoming Modjaji Bed anthology and is also one of the contributors to StoryTime, a link love from last week.
We love The Pen and I because of its fresh approach to literature, and its wacky title.
In life it is important to invest in one’s integrity; integrity is the skill of Kings. From an African perspective, things like ‘intellectual property’ seem so blurry and hard to define and people just seem to be able to get away with stealing other people’s ideas. I’m reminded of my father, the late Dr Lawrence Tshuma. He was zero-tolerant of the theft of one’s ideas-he was a lawyer and pursued anyone who stole his ideas with a patient and enraged tenacity. If there is one thing I want to have taken from him in abundance it’s the skill of integrity.
