Video: JM Coetzee Reads from Summertime
Alert! JM Coetzee, recently in Amsterdam for the “Is dit JM Coetzee” festival – and to receive a knighthood from the Dutch government – stopped off in Haarlem to give a reading from Summertime. Here’s the video, which begins with Coetzee addressing his audience in Dutch, then settling into a fifteen-minute “voorlezing” (I think I’ve got that right). For those whose ears thirst for Coetzee’s even-keel countertenor, prepare to surfeit:
