Journalist and poet Sabata-mpho Mokae has written a new book on the life of Sol Plaatje, famous South African politician and intellectual. The book, titled The Story of Sol T. Plaatje, is intended as an “accessible” biography of Plaatje, who was a pioneering South African activist and writer. Mokae’s biography intends to fill a “gap in the market” by providing a popular account of Sol Plaatje’s for younger readers, reaching into a wider audience.
The foreword is written by Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, who says of the book, “[In] sum, Sabata-mpho Mokae has made a timely intervention in terms of recording a life well-lived. Most of us concerned with the preservation of our history will find this book a treasure, and posterity will be the richer for it!”
