Goldblatt and Vladislavic’s TJ & Double Negative Wins the Kraszna-Krausz Award for Best Photography Book

TJDouble Negative

Alert! South Africa’s Freedom Day, 27 April, is apparently an auspicious day for SA Lit, too: not only did Lauren Beukes win the Arthur C Clarke Award yesterday, but David Goldblatt and Ivan Vladislavic took honours in the Kraszna-Krausz Book Awards stakes, winning the “Best Photography Book” award for their collaboration, TJ & Double Negative, published last year by Umuzi.

The awards “celebrate excellence in photography and moving image publishing”. They were announced at the Sony World Photography Awards in Odeon Leicester Square, London – just a short Tube ride from where Beukes was picking up her gong.

Judges Mary McCartney (Chair), David Campany and Yuka Yamaji said, “Goldblatt and Vladislaviċ’s ambitious project explores the relationship between text and image. A highly effective pairing of fiction and photography, this innovative collaboration redefines the possibilities for writing on and about photography.”

Vladislavic’s novel has just been published separately from TJ, and will be launched in Cape Town on 10 May.

Another win for SA Lit – congratulations to Goldblatt and Vladislavic!

What an excellent morning of news.

Ahem, may I remind you all that there are original stories by today's stars, Ivan and Lauren, and 22 others, in Home Away: (This is not shameless cashing in: All royalties to charity.)
