Deon Meyer Wins a Barry Award for Thirteen Hours

Deon MeyerAlert! Deon Meyer has been honoured with a Barry Award in the “Best Thriller” category for his novel Thirteen Hours.

The Barry Awards are given by the USA’s crime/thriller fan magazine Deadly Pleasures, and were announced this month at the Bouchercon mystery writing conference in St Louis, Missouri.

Meyer, as might be imagined, was thrilled by his win (pun intended!):

Thirteen Hours

“It is such a huge honour,” says Deon after ‘Thirteen Hours’ was crowned Best Thriller in the Barry Awards, in St Louis on September 15. “To recieve this amongst the generosity of the crime fiction family of Bouchercon, is a wonderful bonus.”

Here’s more from South Africa’s Channel24:

The Barry Prize, presented by America’s top crime fiction magazine Deadly Pleasures is named after the book critic Barry Gardner.

There are six categories in the competition.

The winners were announced on Friday at the Bouchercon 2011, a crime fiction conference held in St Louis, Missouri.

Hearty congratulations to Meyer!
