Lola Shoneyin, the author of the award-winning novel about a polygamous family, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, recently delivered a talk at TEDxEuston on the topic of “boys, sex and control”. In her talk, Shoneyin dismisses the argument that an act like polygamy can be justified purely because it “belongs in our culture”. She also voices her worries about the way in which impressionable “young boys” have adopted a misogynistic world view:
