Booktown Richmond Set to Host Second JM Coetzee Literary Festival (25-26 May)

JM Coetzee

The latest newsletter out of Booktown Richmond is packed with news of some exciting literary developments, including the announcement of the dates for the second JM Coetzee Literary Festival. The JM Coetzee Literary Festival was established last year in honour of South Africa’s Nobel Literature laureates, JM Coetzee and Nadine Gordimer. However, the festival also sees several authors speaking on topics besides Coetzee.

While Coetzee himself hasn’t yet RSVPed, the line-up is still sufficiently juicy, with appearances by Anton Harber, Lucy Graham and Deborah Steinmair, among others.

Booktown Richmond has also released a list of the first nine authors who will be attending this year’s BoekBedonnerd Festival. BoekBedonnerd V, which takes place from 25-27 October this year, will focus on South African crime fiction. Authors set to attend include Books LIVE members Mike Nicol, Margie Orford, Lauren Beukes, Zukiswa Wanner, Sarah Lotz and Cynthia Jele.

With the Franschhoek Literary Festival, the Cape Town Book Fair and Open Book Cape Town also on the horizon, it’s time to start pencilling in dates and making travel arrangements. Well, almost.
