Athol Fugard Celebrates 50 Years of Blood Knot with a Season at the Signature Theatre
New York’s Signature Theatre has dedicated an entire season to the works of renowned South African playwright and director, Athol Fugard.
Fugard, who turns 80-years-old this June, has taken up position as the theatre’s Residency One Playwright-in-Residence, and will stage three of his plays at the theatre during the course of 2012.
The dedicated season kicked off with a run of Fugard’s groundbreaking Blood Knot, which continues until 11 March. From 1 May to 10 June, the theatre will show My Children! My Africa!, followed by The Train Driver from 14 August to 23 September. 2012 also saw a Broadway production of Fugard’s The Road to Mecca by the Roundabout Theatre Company.
