British journalist Michela Wrong, author of In the Footsteps of Mr Kurtz, I Didn’t Do It for You and It’s Our Turn to Eat, has compiled a reading list for allAfrica.com of books that deal with the crisis in Africa’s Great Lakes region.
Wrong’s list includes Susan Williams’ recently-released title, Who Killed Hammarskjöld?.

King Leopold’s Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror and Heroism in Colonial Africa, by Adam Hochschild, (Pan, £9.99).
It’s impossible to understand why the Democratic Republic of Congo is in today’s pitiful state without examining its grotesque colonial history. Hochschild’s book is a devastating indictment of Belgium’s King Leopold, who paid the explorer Henry Morton Stanley to carve out a vast personal colony and then looted it.
