SolaceStrikes Have Followed Me All My LifeBom BoyWhen in Broad Daylight I Open My EyesA Week in the Kitchen

Cape Town Magazine recently spoke to Mervyn Sloman, owner of Cape Town’s much-loved independent bookstore, The Book Lounge, for advice on what to read in the months ahead. Sloman produced a list of 10 fine local and international titles, including books by Books LIVE members Andrew Brown, Greg Lazarus and Yewande Omotoso. Take a look:

Reading anything longer than 140 characters may be exhausting, and doing it on anything other than an Apple product may be unfashionable, but we still like to think that there are few small pleasures that can rival a good read and the smell of paperback.

Thus we took our ache for some old-fashioned recommended reading to Mervyn Sloman, the head honcho of one of Cape Town city’s most well-known independent bookstores, the Book Lounge, to get some expert opinion on just which pages we should be turning this season.

Mervyn certainly didn’t disappoint, and he even gave some quick insight into what’s allowed his quaint corner bookstore to survive amidst a waning global literary culture and an ePublishing industry that’s even closing the doors of mega-chains.
