Katy Chance Reviews The Ranter’s Guide to South Africa by Bryan Rostron

The Ranter’s Guide to South Africa: A Handbook for Hotheads, Windbags and DemagoguesVerdict: carrot

The thing about rants and ranters is that they are either completely correct or entirely wrong — there is no middle ground, and nor can there be, for whether a rant is right or rubbish depends wholly on the reader, which makes The Ranter’s Guide to South Africa: A Handbook for Hotheads, Windbags and Demagogues rather empowering.

A rant will either irritate the hell out of you or have you nodding with smug satisfaction that there is someone else as smart and insightful as yourself. In this case, Bryan Rostron is often horribly on the money with the mirror he has turned on South Africa, being alternately disquieting or so wickedly subversive I’m still smiling about it.
