What I’m Reading: Kerry Dawkins

Kerry Dawkins is a career development specialist and co-author, with Graeme Codrington, of Navigating your Career: 5 Steps to Success in the New World of Work.
I have just read The Coming Jobs War written by Jim Clifton, the chairman of Gallup International. I chose this book as I was interested to hear how they supported the view (with which I agree) that there is a coming war for jobs.
Through worldwide polling, Gallup found that the number-one social value of our times is no longer freedom, peace or democracy, but rather “a good job”. They discuss how a good job defines our identity more than ever before. The trouble is that 1.8 billion people worldwide are looking for “good jobs” that are just not available.
This thought-provoking book challenges us to find our entrepreneurial spirit and work towards job creation. Putting the Americanisms aside, the message is applicable to all of us South Africans and is definitely worth a read.
