It looks wonderful, really it does. BUT [now copy and paste every single thing I have said about the sparse number of women writers invited to the last two M&G Lit Festivals]. And no, upping the representation from about 10% to 15% is NOT what we meant. I have to accept that no-one is listening. Sigh.

They've been getting feedback about the fact that half the writers (if not more) in SA are women for two years now, so it's not as if they're still unaware of this issue. I can only conclude, very sadly, that they just don't think excluding all but a few token ovaries matters. Women's Month: yet another jolly charade...

Titlestad chairing a panel with Chapman, Lenta and Mackenzie? Michael T aside, that's some seriously distilled (censored) there.

I don't live in Jo'burg so it isn't an issue. But if this event was being held in Cape Town, I wouldn't bother going. I read both men and women, but my favourite authors have been shunned. I would prefer honesty, 'M&G Male Literary Fest' to tokenism. Then every year there is a debate why women have the Orange Prize.

The best thing about graduating university was being able to read women again.
