Rob Hofmeyr Reviews Life Underwater by Ken Barris

Life UnderwaterVerdict: carrot

This is a highly readable novel, set in Port Elizabeth in the Sixties, but extending into the present.

It is the story of three brothers in a Jewish home, Jude, Simon and Eli Machabeus, along with their parents and friends and relatives.

It is a superb re-enactment of school and family life, recalling Grey College, the local rabbi, the beaches and the dynamics of family relations and friendships.
