Africa Centre Releases Shortlist for 2012 Artist in Residency Programme
The Africa Centre has released the shortlist for this year’s Artist in Residency Programme (AIR). Among a fine selection of 33 actors, writers, performers, artists, photographers, filmmakers and other creatives (whittled down from a list of 281 applicants) are Karen Jennings (Finding Soutbek), Ronelda Kamfer (Grond/Santekraam), Tendai Huchu (The Hairdresser of Harare), Novuyo Tshuma (Shadows) and photographer Eric Miller (The Hungry Season).
Other notable shortlistees include Ngwatilo Mawiyoo, James Webb, Kai Lossgott and Sydelle Willow Smith. The AIR winners will be announced at the end of September this year.
The Artist in Residency (AIR) programme supports artists from Africa who are provocative, innovative, relevant and highly engaged with both social issues and their art forms.
AIR manifests through existing artist in residency partnerships around the world that are prepared to select an artist from a short list provided by the Africa Centre, created from a Continental search. The costs of the residency and roundtrip airfare are included in each residency award made as part of this programme.
