National Book Week 2012 Launches Today (Programme to Follow)

 
National Book Week is celebrated this year from 3 to 8 September. A partnership between the South African Book Development Council and the Department of Arts and Culture, National Book Week aims to promote literacy and celebrate reading.

This year’s National Book Week, with the theme “Read a Book, Share a Book”, was launched this morning in Uitenhage by Minister of Arts and Culture, Paul Mashatile. The programme for the rest of the week is yet to be released, but authors slated to attend include McIntosh Polela, Deon Meyer, Thando Mgqolozana, Chris van Wyk, Angela Makholwa and Ndumiso Ngcobo.

Minister of Arts and Culture, Paul Mashatile will launch the third National Book Week, which runs from 3-8 September 2012, in Uitenhage.National Book Week is an initiative of the Department of Arts and Culture in association with the South African Book Development Council (SABDC). According to Minister Mashatile, “National Book Week is one of the most significant interventions in our efforts to mainstream the book sector as an important contributor to job creation, poverty reduction and skills development.”
