Patrick Flanery’s Absolution Wins Spear’s Best First Book Award 2012
Alert! Patrick Flanery’s debut novel, Absolution, which is set in South Africa, has won the Spear’s Best First Book Award.
The winners of the Spear’s Book Awards 2012 were announced yesterday in London where Flanery scooped this special category award. Absolution was also shortlisted for the Novel category, which was won by At Last by Edward St Aubyn.The Spear’s Book Awards cover eight different categories and include three special awards.

The winners for the Spear’s Book Awards 2012, sponsored by Harbottle & Lewis, have been announced today, covering categories from finance to fiction, business to biography. The awards, which are now in their fourth year, were for the second year presented at a glamorous literary lunch at Massimo at the Corinthia. Champagne was supplied by Laurent-Perrier. The official bookseller of the Spear’s Book Awards is Heywood Hill, the renowned Mayfair institution.
