Getaway’s Top 20 Books for Your Festive Season Shopping List

On the Getaway blog, Adel Groenewald lists a selection of books to suit, quite possibly, everyone’s tastes, to make shopping for presents this festive season much easier.

While the Getaway blog’s “20 great books for Christmas” is light on local fiction, mentioning only John van de Ruit‘s Spud – Exit Pursued by a Bear alongside international titles such as The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling, The Racketeer by John Grisham and Winter of the World by Ken Follett, it does include plenty in the way of local non-fiction on a variety of topics.

There are books for sport lovers such as 100 Memorable Sporting Moments by Peter Joyce, books for cooks (and wannabe cooks) for example The Ultimate Braai Master by Justin Bonello, Riaan Cruywagwen’s biography What’s News? and humour in The Best of Getaway Gallery by Cameron Ewart-Smith.

The time has come for Christmas shopping. And whether you love it or you hate it, it has to be done. Finding ideas for presents could potentially get tough, especially for the distant aunt or cousin that you only see once a year. But as you’ll know, books are always a safe present option, so to make your search a little easier, here are 20 awesome books that’ll make great Christmas presents.

The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling

If, like me, you obediently devoured every single Harry Potter book (more than once) then it’s probably time you admit that you were reading children’s books all along and that it might be a good idea to see what JK Rowling can do when she puts her mind to adult fiction. Just be warned – this tragicomedy is as far as it can get from the magical world of friendships and wizardry.
