GARETH Crocker wrote a humdinger of a book, Finding Jack, that was published to great acclaim. It sold out in the UK within months of publication and did the same in the US. It was about a soldier who refused to leave his dog, Jack, behind in Vietnam when the Americans pulled out. He went back to rescue it. Journey from Darkness is also about an animal rescue, this time an African elephant, a rare female desert one that many believe is a myth.
