Benny Griesel is back. He has been dry for 200 and something days, but it’s a constant battle. What makes Deon Meyer’s hero so endearing is his self-doubt. He knows that he’s a good cop, but he doesn’t really believe it, especially in the dark moments, when that self-doubt turns almost to self-hate. It doesn’t help that his potential new relationship is with a woman with problems of her own.
