Jamal Mahjoub and Helon Habila Included on The Kwani? Manuscript Project Judging Panel
The 2012 Kwani? Manuscript Project has announced its judging panel, which will be chaired by Jamal Mahjoub, author of The Drift Latitudes. His co-judges include Granta Magazine’s deputy editor Ellah Allfrey, Helon Habila, author of the Commonwealth Writers Prize-winning and Caine Prize-winning Waiting for an Angel, and Simon Gikandi who is a Princeton University academic and author of Slavery and the Culture of Taste. Rounding up the distinguished panel of judges are Mbugua wa Mungai of Kenyatta University, and Irene Staunton of Zimbabwe’s Weaver Press.
The longlist is currently being finalised and the judges will be announcing the shortlist in May and the winner in June.
We had an amazing response to our call for unpublished novel manuscripts with over 250 qualifying fiction manuscripts received from 19 African countries. We know writers and readers are now eagerly awaiting news from us and so wanted to provide an update on the longlisting and judging process.
