Conference Programme for “On the Contrary: André Brink and His Oeuvre” Released

 
PhilidaContraryAlert! The University of Pretoria has released the programme for their conference on André P Brink’s oeuvre which will take place from 22 to 23 March 2013.

“On the Contrary: Andre Brink and His Oeuvre” will open at 4 PM on Friday 22 March with registration, followed by a discussion and readings by Brink and Ingrid Winterbach. At 6:30 PM the book Contrary: Critical Responses to the Novels of André Brink, to be released by Protea Boekhuis, will be launched and dinner will follow.

The second day of the conference will consist of academic papers on a variety of aspects of Brink’s work, such as influences, context, the blending of history and fiction and the relationship between language and music. Reference will be made to a great many of his books, for example The Ambassador, An Instant in the Wind, The Other Side of Silence, Imaginings of Sand and, of course, his latest Man Booker Prize longlisted novel, Philida. Academics who will take part include Karina Magdalena Szczurek, Marius Crous, Tatjana Pavlov-West, Andries Visagie, Jochen Petzold and Willie Burger.
