Cookbooks are the new blogs. They are popping up all over the place all the time. They are written by butchers, bakers, bloggers, wine makers and a variety of other enthusiastic gourmands. Some are excellent and others mediocre. Very few are bad, which is, at least in part, the result of there being so much competition. The quality of writing and photography has improved and recipes, it seems, undergo more thorough testing than they did years ago.
