Debut South African Indies Rock – SAIR – launches in Johannesburg on 28 March with international speaker and CEO of Social Deviants and founder of the UtopYA Conference in Nashville!

SAIR was founded by award winning South African author Carlyle Labuschagne – author of Dead of Night, The Broken Destiny, Evanescent and Absolution to name a few – as a way of giving back to the industry for making her dreams come true. South African Indies Rock is a book festival aimed at being a place where self-published to traditionally published writers are seen as equal players in the industry, a place where they can find hope, inspiration and the resources they need to help them along the exciting journey of being recognised in their craft. Carlyle started this initiative because of her struggle to becoming a South African published author. Frustrated by the lack of support and enthusiasm about all things reading and writing in South Africa her message of ‘stand loud and proud for what you believe in and you should believe in yourself and not be scared of your unique voice’ will be the core focus of this endeavour. Labuschagne hopes to make SAIR a destination where everyone feels connected, celebrated and rewarded for their passions.

SAIR will take place at Modjadji House, 23 Oosthuizen Drive, Roodepoort, 1709

Four guest speakers ranging from one of the best Social Media Strategists from the USA, to a South African multi-award winning novelist, to an author and filmmaker who is climbing the book and movie charts with his novels.

  • Gareth Crocker author of Finding Jack, Journey from Darkness, Never Let Go, King, The Last Road Trip which is currently being developed into a Hollywood film
  • David Henderson founder of the country’s largest Digital Publishing Blog www.myebook.co.za
