The Mbokodo Awards, an initiative of Carol Bouwer Productions and the Department of Arts and Culture, are presented annually to recognise women in the arts, highlighting the contribution by women in the ongoing development of the arts in South Africa.

The awards celebrate women of different ages, from all cultural groups and are awarded in 20 categories. Last year’s winners included Antjie Krog (Promotion of Language and Storytelling), Mmatshilo Motsei (Creative Writing) and Thuli Zuma (Poetry).
