Alert! The cover for Zakes Mda’s new novel, Little Suns, has been revealed.
Little Suns, a work of historical fiction, is due to be released in December. The cover was designed by Gretchen van der Byl, who has designed a number of Umuzi’s recent titles, including 101 Detectives by Ivan Vladislavić, A Slim, Green Silence by Beverly Rycroft, Nadia Davids’ An Imperfect Blessing and One Midlife Crisis and a Speedo by Darrel Bristow-Bovey.
Mda’s latest work is set during the early 1900s; a love story intertwined with the true life events surrounding the assassination of colonial magistrate Hamilton Hope.
Umuzi announced the novel in July, with publisher Fourie Botha calling it “a deeply human story set in a brutal history”.
Mda is the author of the famous novels Ways of Dying and The Heart of Redness, among many others, and his work has been translated into 20 languages. He is the recipient of the Order of Ikhamanga and was the winner of the 2014/2015 University of Johannesburg Prize for Rachel’s Blue.
