Jeff Popple reviews Icarus by Deon Meyer

IcarusVerdict: carrot

Some of the world’s best crime writing is currently emanating from Africa, particularly South Africa. Meyer has been at the forefront at African crime writing for some time and Icarus confirms his status as one of the genre’s best writers. The story once more features detective Benny Griessel. Forty-six years old and 642 days sober when the book opens, Benny is called in to investigate the murder of a man who owned and operated a business that provided alibis for cheating spouses, Alibi.com. Closely resembling the recent Ashley Madison case, someone has hacked the website and is posting the names of the users. Tough, gritty and realistic, this is one not to be missed.
