New-look Books LIVE :)

    Greetings Books LIVE readers!

Today, we present a fresh new look for our front page, which brings us more in line with other Avusa Media LIVE sites (http://www.timeslive.co.za etc).

Because themes can take some time to propagate, you might see a mess for a few hours at http://bookslive.co.za, instead of our snazzy new duds.

Use shift+refresh in your browser to clear your cache a few times and the front page will start resolving normally.

The change was quite an effort - congratulations to the Books LIVE dev and design team for getting it done.

Please add your feedback, pos or neg, in the comments below - thanks!

I was so confused last night when I looked at the site on my phone. This explains it. Love the new look.

Hi Ben, I like! Experiencing a bug though - logged in to backend, updated my 'about' page, clicked update, returned error page: 'Can't open file' and changes are not published. Using latest Chrome 18.0.1025. Thanks! B

I think it looks great, very clean and clear. But search is being weird. I'm using Chrome.

Thanks, Byron and HRI - working on those issues.

Have also noticed that pagination is a bit wonky - seeing to that, too.

I have chaos on my screen. *blushing furiously* er, er, which are the shift + refresh keys? *blush blush blush* (I use Firefox).

Helen, the shift key is the key that changes 'a' into 'A'. The refresh part isn't a key: find the place to click in the address bar that will reload the webpage you're on. Hold down the shift key and click to refresh. The page will then load normally.

Here are some additional methods if you're having trouble.

    Microsoft Internet Explorer
Use the following keyboard shortcuts to clear the browser's cache.
    Ctrl-F5

    Firefox:
Use the following keyboard shortcuts to clear the browser's cache.
    Windows: Ctrl +Shift+R
    Mac: Cmd+Shift+R

    Safari
Same procedure for Mac and Windows

Use the following keyboard shortcut to clear the browser's cache.
    Mac and Windows: Alt-Cmd-E

    Chrome
Chrome has terrible cache issues and sometimes you need to clear the entire cache.

Same procedure for Mac and Windows

Click the wrench icon on the browser toolbar.
    Select Tools.
    Select Clear browsing data.
In the dialog that appears, select the checkboxes for the types of information that you want to remove.
Use the menu at the top to select the amount of data that you want to delete. Select beginning of time to delete everything.
    Click Clear browsing data.

Justin, thank you thank you. That command sequence sorts out everything in Firefox, so now I am able to say: well done the team!

I so badly wanted to compare your changes to FB's timeline. But alas, you did far too nice of a job. Compliments are not nearly as funny. At least we have Helen's grappling with shift keys for amusement, I suppose.

Quick update on Google search: it should be working much better now. Try it:

Search works. Also text all nicely flush left. All is perfect.

    You always do lovely work.
And the sweet quirk of my endless reading of The Second Coming of Mavala Shhikongo by Peter Orner continues.

Helen, we've fixed the "Previous" and "Next" scrolling links at the bottom of our front-page BOOK Chat widget. If they don't work for you immediately, use Justin's instructions above to clear your cache, or try a different browser.

Yay, working just fine now. And loading quicker, too -- glad yesterday's treacle speeds were a glitch.
